Marketing Program
AGTEC’s marketing program will enable Guatemala’s farmers to sell their products in local and foreign markets. The program will also help build the trade capacity of local institutions by working with partners from the academic, public, and private sectors to execute effective and sustainable development activities that spur economic development while supporting free trade, sound environmental practices, and the opening of new markets.
AGTEC will also promote a Fair Trade certification program for selected agricultural products in farmer communities to:
• obtain value-added products for export
• introduce a sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS)
measures program for agricultural markets
• provide a comprehensive training and technical
assistance program on food safety and hazard
assessment for meat and vegetable sectors
• implement a cold chain program to improve supply
chain logistics and access to new markets
|
|
• establish a microcredit program by linking farmers
to existing financial systems that provide loans or
grants to encourage the adoption of new agricultural
technologies and methods and create sustainable
business opportunities
Operations will be based in Chimaltenango, serving farmers from the central Guatemalan highlands and reaching out to other sectors of the country, including the livestock sectors of Izabal, Petén, and the bioenergy crop sector of the Southern Coastal region of Escuintla. AGTEC will address technical issues at every point along the value chain including production, processing, storage, packaging, shipping, and marketing.
